Sports Medicine Doctor

As one of the leading sports medicine doctors in the Texas Hill Country, Dr. Romanick’s scope of practice includes an active arthroscopic surgery program. This includes arthroscopic treatment of knee and shoulder injuries. Shoulder injuries can include dislocations, rotator cuff injuries and labral injuries. Knee injuries such as anterior cruciate ligament tears and meniscal (cartilage) injuries are readily treated through the arthroscope. An arthroscope is a tiny camera with a small lens and lighting system used to look inside a joint.

Arthroscopic Knee Surgery

Arthroscopic knee surgery, or knee arthroscopy, is a procedure used to treat problems inside the knee joint. During an arthroscopy, a camera is inserted into the joint through a small incision in the skin around the knee. Other small incisions can be made to allow instruments to be inserted into the knee to repair or remove damaged structures.

Anterior Cruciate Ligament (ACL) Reconstruction

Anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) reconstruction is surgery to repair an ACL injury.  An ACL injury is the tearing of the anterior cruciate ligament inside a knee joint. In order to repair the injury, a new ligament must be created from grafted tissue. ACL reconstruction is performed by making small incisions around the knee joint to insert the necessary instruments to place the graft.

Arthroscopic Shoulder Reconstruction (for dislocation and rotator cuff injuries)

Dr. Romanick uses shoulder arthroscopy for dislocation and rotator cuff injuries. Shoulder arthroscopy is surgery that uses an arthroscope to examine or repair the tissues inside or around your shoulder joint.  Arthroscopic surgical repair is often done on an outpatient basis.
